Scarlett's 10th Annual Math-A-Thon for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Scarlett held its 10th annual Math-A-Thon to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event was coordinated by Scott Turner. Students were asked to get sponsors to sponsor them based on how many math problems they complete. By supporting the participants of the event, the community helped to raise funds for the internationally recognized center. These funds will help St. Jude in its ongoing fight against childhood catastrophic diseases. This year Scarlett students raised $595.10 bringing us to a grand total of $10,937.56 over the past 10 years.
The Math-A-Thon is sponsored by Six Flags Theme Parks, who provides free passes to their parks for every student raising $35 or more through the program. This is an annual event that begins in Mr. Turner’s math class in mid November and ends before the Holiday break.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is in Memphis, Tennessee and was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas. The hospital is an internationally recognized biomedical research hospital dedicated to finding cures for the catastrophic diseases of childhood. The hospital’s work is supported through funds raised by events such as the Math-A-Thon. All patients are treated regardless of their ability to pay. The hospital covers all costs of treatment beyond those reimbursed by third party insurers and total costs for families who have no insurance.
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT SCARLETT COMMUNITY!!!
UPDATE (11/8/09) - The Math-A-Thon will be returning to Scarlett in November. Please have your student listen for announcements over the PA or in Mr. Turner's class.
